Feng Shui Bathroom (How A Bathroom Flushes Prosperity & What You Can Do About It)

Alright, so we’re in the article that’ll reveal to you – general and direction-wise – feng shui bathroom and toilet guidelines, rules, regulations, concepts and remedies. But before we begin, I must tell you an undeniable fact or a concept of feng shui towards a bathroom or toilet, here it is:

“Bathrooms and toilets have got a really bad reputation as far as feng shui is concerned”.

and here’s why: As per feng shui, bathrooms and toilets (I’ll call them bathrooms from hereon for sake of simplicity) have the tendency to drain or flush away the positive “Qi” energy of your home.

Hence, if “Qi” enters the bathroom (read as bathroom or toilet) then rest assured that it’s flushed right away out of your house and that’s what we certainly don’t want to happen.

Note: Here, I assume that you’re completely aware of concepts of feng shui and “Qi” energy; if – by any chance – you aren’t then please read the article @ Feng Shui and the concept of “Qi”.

Feng Shui Bathrooms

Ok, coming back to the topic of bathrooms; since each and every part or corner of a house is related to an aspect of life, hence a bathroom in one particular corner or part would affect that specific area of life; this is what I’ve explained further – with examples – in the next section of the article, so, just read on.

Bathroom Feng Shui – Why You MUST Do It

As said earlier that each and every part or direction of a home is related to a specific aspect of life and a bathroom in that part will drain the luck or benefits of that aspect of life.

Here are some examples:

A bathroom in South-East: – Since South-East part of a house is related to wealth, a bathroom in this part will drain away all the money from the house; joblessness, sinking income, increasing debt and even bankruptcy are some effects of South-East bathroom.

In North-West: – The North-West part of the house deals with helpful people and luck from heaven, a toilet in this part will drain away all those from you. No help from anyone, backstabbing, office politics, discredit etc. are some effects of North-West bathroom.

and the list can go on and on for other directions too.

Now, there’s an image in the article @ Colors and Directions that’ll reveal to you the relation between directions and the aspect of life ruled by each direction. You can have a look at that image and you’ll be able to understand the good aspect – of your life – which a bathroom in that particular direction will drain away.

But hey, a bathroom or toilet have to be somewhere in the house. Isn’t it? The answer to that it yes, they can be in the house but remember wherever they are they’ll – at least try to – reduce the benefits of that direction(s).

Hence, it’s vital to have feng shui a bathroom in the home; this’ll minimize – or possibly eliminate – the draining or flushing of “good” from life; so, the next question popping in your mind would be how to have a feng shui bathroom? That’s exactly what I’ve detailed – in do’s and don’ts format (I know you love it) – you in the next section of this article, so just read on.

Bathroom Feng Shui – How to Do It

So, here we are, in the second section of the article; the section that deals with the actionable things when it comes to bathroom feng shui.

Here in this section you’ll find feng shui bathroom tips – as promised, in do’s and don’ts format – all you now need to do is to just go through these tips and apply them to the bathroom and toilets of your home so that they aren’t able to drain luck, money, love or anything positive from your home.

Here, I’ll suggest you, that before you start reading feng shui bathroom tips, you must read the article @ Feng Shui Colors; that’s because once you read – and really understand – the essence of that article, you’ll be able to understand the reasons for – most of – the remedies that are mentioned below.

However, if you don’t read that article, that’s completely ok, the remedies will still work; but in that case you’ll just be applying the remedies without knowing the exact science or reason behind the remedies. Anyways, it’s all up to you.

So, without any more delay, let’s raise the curtain and start learning feng shui bathroom tips.

The tips 1st to 8th are general bathroom tips (which can be applied to any bathroom or toilet); number 9th to 13th are direction specific feng shui bathroom tips i.e. you must apply them if your bathroom is located in that particular direction.

Bathroom/Toilet – What To Do

  1. Always keep the bathroom door closed.
  2. Make sure to keep the toilet lid closed.
  3. Replace any torn curtains with new ones.
  4. Keep the bathroom clean, fresh and airy. Use a good air freshener.
  5. Make sure that the bathroom receives ample sunlight and fresh air.
  6. Keep windows, ventilators and doors of bathroom clean.
  7. Place a mirror on the door of the bathroom, this’ll make the “Qi” bounce back into the house/room and not enter the bathroom or toilet. Just make sure that the mirror is placed as per rules of feng shui; more on feng shui mirror rules @ Mirrors and Feng Shui.
  8. Get the best essential aromatic oils for a relaxed bath.
  9. If there’s a bathroom in North-East or South-West then;
    1. Hang a metallic wind chime in the bathroom.
    2. Make sure that there are no Chinese symbols on the chime.
    3. Make sure that no one passes or sits under the wind chime.
    4. Place metallic colored rugs such as gold, silver or grey; circular shaped ones must be preferred.
  10. If there’s a bathroom in South then;
    1. Hang a crystal ball in the window of the bathroom; the rainbow lights from the crystal will reduce the bad fire energy.
    2. Make sure to cleanse the crystal ball as it’s going to absorb negative energy.
    3. Alternatively, you can also use a crystal geode which is a rock with hollow center.
    4. Place square shaped skin colored rug; you can also opt for yellow, pink or chocolate brown colored ones.
  11. If there’s a bathroom in North then;
    1. Place some lush green houseplants in the bathroom.
    2. Put a square shaped rug in shades of green.
  12. If there’s a bathroom in East or South-East then;
    1. Place glitter lamps in the bathroom and make sure to turn them on for around 2-3 hours daily.
    2. If glitter lamps aren’t your thing then you can light candles in the bathroom.
    3. Triangular rugs in shades of red are best for such a bathroom.
  13. If there’s a bathroom in West or North-West then;
    1. Just place an urn with water in the bathroom.
    2. Place blue shaded rug; if possible, get a wavy shaped one.

Bathroom/Toilet – What to Avoid

  1. Avoid clutter in the bathroom; in fact avoid it everywhere.
  2. Avoid mirrors reflecting toilet seats. More on mirrors feng shui @ Feng Shui Mirrors.
  3. Avoid leaking taps and faucets; replace them immediately else they’ll flush away the money.
  4. Replace broken items, such as, soap dispensers, shampoo bottles etc.
  5. Don’t keep old and worn-out toothbrushes in bathroom.
  6. Avoid a bathroom or toilet at the center of home.
  7. Avoid bathroom door facing bedroom, kitchen or dining room.
  8. Avoid locating a bathroom adjacent or near to house entrance.
  9. Never have a bathroom above kitchen or main door.
  10. Avoid locating a bathroom or toilet under staircases. More on staircase @ Feng Shui & Staircases
  11. Never place metallic wind chimes in North, North-West or West bathroom.
  12. Never try to place metallic things in the South-East bathroom; it’ll drain away all the money from house.

With this we come to the end of this article about feng shui bathroom tips.

I am sure that you’ll be benefited by all the above mentioned tips – obviously after applying them – in the bathrooms and toilets of your home.

what if is wachmachine in the bathroom ? southeast

    • Hey Marcus,

Thanks for dropping by on FengShuiPundit.com.

If your bathroom is in the South-East (SE) of your home then you need to apply remedies mentioned in the 12th point of “What To Do” section of the article..

If you’re planning to keep a washing machine in the SE part of a bathroom then that seems ok to me..

Feel free to ask further questions…

      • Marcus Samuel

Thank you dear!!! very well explained!!

      • Marcus Samuel

What is an urn with watter ? In bathroom End what is his serve? Thank you

        • An urn is a container to store something. The reason to put an urn with water in the West or North-West bathroom is to balance the energy of elements (the 5 basic elements)..

In order to easily and completely understand the relationship between elements and directions I’d suggest you to go through the article @ http://www.fengshuipundit.com/feng-shui-colors/

          Hope this helps.

      • Marcus Samuel

        Hi Pundit

I when go out from my home southeast i can see cable eletricity up 6,7 m from ground ,faraway from home 5 m.tell me something about that

        Thank you

        • Hey Marcus,

The electricity pole and high tension cables aren’t supposed to be good in feng shui, especially when they’re very near the house..

a logical reason for this is that they may become a threat to anyone who goes too near to them and the cables may snap during bad weather (causing damage of life and property)..

Since, as you said – in your case, the cables are far away from your home, they should be fine..

Feel free to ask further questions if you have ..

Help I have a bathroom in the sw ,what colours should I decorate as I can’t move it ,any cures I can put in place ,thankyou.

    • Hi Hazel,
Thanks for dropping by on FengShuiPundit.com!

In a SW bathroom you can use metallic colors such as white, silver, gold etc. You can also use wooden colors but that’s a too strong remedy.

I’d suggest you to go through the article about feng shui colors (the link I’ve mentioned below). That article will help you understand what colors are best suited for which area (or direction) of the house and how to apply feng shui remedies using colors.

      Here’s the article link:

Please feel free to ask further questions.

  • You’re welcome Hazel.
    May God bless you!

  • Jessie Greene

Hi there I love your article thank you for sharing! Pls advise me about our bathrooms. We have 2 1/2 bath in our home. In the 1st floor, we have 1 fullbath in the northwest section of the house also not to mention the kitchen is in nw portion while masters in the southwest. Another half bath in the 1st floor located in the East side of the house where the living room is in the north east while the formal dining in the Southeast part. In the 2ND floor we have fullbath in the North portion. House is facing south, garage is also facing south. stairs facing south but can’t be seen fr the front door.

  • Hi Jessie,
    Thanks for all the love!

    On the 1st floor
You’ve a bathroom in NW of the house. That’s not a big problem. All you need to do is:
    1. Keep the door of the toilet closed at all the times
    2. Just place an urn with water in the bathroom.
    3. Place a blue colored rug in the bathroom (waves shaped)

Also, you’ve said that there’s a kitchen in NW of the house on 1st floor (I’m a bit confused here; is there a bathroom or kitchen in NW)

    Master in SW is awesome!
Living room in NE is really good.
Dining in SE is also ok.
Full bath in North is ok but if there’s a toilet in that bathroom then try not to use it.
South facing houses can be very auspicious!
Garage facing South is ok but make sure to park your vehicles facing North in those garage.

Feel free to ask further questions.

We have a toilet in the east of our rented house. How can we enhance health, happiness and wealth.

    • Hi Skumar,

For East toilet please refer point no 12 (to do section) in the article @ http://www.fengshuipundit.com/feng-shui-bathroom/

I am writing for my husband. He earns well but there are no savings we always has tension because of that . I tell him that you have abig hole in your hands thats why money is jot staying back :))
        Any fengshui tips for that?

  • Oroles

After i read this article i realised i have a bathroom in SW and is just above the kitchen. One friend advised me to change the bathroom (to move my study room from the NE to the bathroom place).
But since that bathroom is the biggest (main) the remaining one is too little for 4 members.
What should i do ? Is any way to go like this or should i change it into the office?

    Thank you !

    • Hi Oroles,

Thanks for dropping by on FengShuiPundit.com

The 9th point (of what to do section) of this article has got remedies that you can apply for SW bathroom.
Now, as you said that the bathroom is above a kitchen that’s not good; kitchen is fire and bathroom is water so water over fire (water being dominant will put off fire energy). In this case what you can do is (if you can) make a false ceiling in the kitchen.

Also, if you can, then send me a sketch of your home (mark North on it) and I’d be more than happy to help you!

Feel free to ask further questions!

  • venusorog

pls send me an advice, i send layout of my house, because since i stated to leave here we always have a big problem, specially like now i lost my job and i cant find a new one… 🙁

    • Hi Venusorog,

Thanks for dropping by on FengShuiPundit.com!

I can see you’ve placed washing machine and dryer in North of the house. If you can, then please move it to the bottom right corner of the same room (that’ll reduce the load on exact North of the house and North is related to career opportunities and income).

Also in the first floor, if you’ve anything heavy in the North of store room then move it to the right bottom corner of the same room.

Please make these changes. I hope you’ll land up on your dream job in a few days!

Feel free to ask further questions.

      • venusorog

        thank you for your reply,

Since we move in this house we always have a problem specially in financial, i have three daughters, my youngest has down syndrome and she’s 1 year old and 5 months right now, she is newly undergone open heart surgery. did you see anything wrong in our house? pls advice me some remedy on what to do because i have a fear right now to lose my family… 🙁

i am now planning to move the washing and dryer, i draw a layout on where to move it.

        pls see the attach picture,

        • Is this your own house or rental?

          • venusorog

this is my house thru housing loan since 2011,

            why? what did you see?
is our house is so bad in feng shui?

about my daughter who has down syndrome what can you say about it?

            • Ok.

The house isn’t that bad. I’ve seen houses that’re terrible and there’s nothing that can be done for them.

Was your daughter born around after 21 months of moving in the house?

I can see that there’s a gas stove near the center of the house and that shouldn’t be there. If you can move that from center to SE or NW (in place of dining table).

You can move the dining table to gas stove location provided it’s not heavy.

Also, make sure that while sleeping none of the body part is reflected in any of the mirrors in the room (not even on TV screen). If there’re such mirrors (or TV screen) then you need to cover them while sleeping.

Feel free to ask further questions.

  • Nikhil Mody

Hello, I have a bathroom one in NE and the second one in SW direction. Please advice what should I do to get rid of negative energy. I see you suggested to add metal wind chimes but I just found out that instead of metal wind chimes we should use ceramic or glass wind chimes to suppress energy. I am very confuse now. What type of wind chimes should I use. Please advice. Thank you.

  • Nikhil Mody

Hello Sir, This is my house layout and please advice what should be done to cure the bad things out from the house.

  • Hi Nikhil,
Thanks for dropping by on FengShuiPundit.com

Placing metallic wind chime will reduce the “bad earth” element of NE and SW.
For more understanding on relationship amongst elements please refer to the article @ http://www.fengshuipundit.com/feng-shui-colors/

Feel free to ask further questions.

    • Nikhil Mody

Can you please even look at my house layout submitted in previous message and see what other things I can do to remove bad energy. Thank you.

  • Shweta Singh

I am looking for an advice to bring financial luck at home. Right now we are facing lot of financial hassles . Please help

    • Hi Shweta,

Thanks for dropping by on FengShuiPundit.com

As you said that you’re facing financial issues, I suspect that there’s something wrong with North of your home. May be there’s a toilet/bathroom or something that shouldn’t be there.
Send me a sketch of your home and mark North direction on it. I’d be more than happy to help you!

      • Shweta Singh

But the house is south facing. How to make a sketch and send. please help me.

        • Hi Shweta,

Just draw a sketch of your home and mark North direction in it, take a snap of the drawing and attach it with your next comment. I’d be more than happy to help!

  • Rest looks good to me. Try to open windows of East and North sides in the morning time; this’ll help the house to get some fresh morning air and sunlight.

  • Svetoslava Stefanova

Hi, I would like to ask about kitchen in SW and bathroom over the kitchen also in the SW. What needs to be done? Thanks

  • Ayna

    Hello Pundit!
Your page/site is very helpful and I love it. I am not quite good with directions and when I tried using a compass to find out locations of house areas it made me even more confuse.. I am so desperate because since we moved to this new house (2years ago) I’ve noticed the struggle that my family experience in all aspects of life.. my daughter been diagnosed of autism, my husband got laid off from work, almost wanting to file bankruptcy, my dad been diagnosed of liver psirosis etc. I hope that you can help us and I would appreciate any advice from you regarding feng shui of our house. I attached here the layout of our house (1st and 2nd floor). If you will notice our kitchen has a bathroom over it and our stove i believe is facing north? (Not sure bout the direction) If I understood it right you’ve mentioned that these are all bad in feng shui, however im hesitant to follow the cure youve mentioned on uour article as I’m not quite sure if the directions I assumed are right, please help me/us.. Big thanks in advance! I aplohize about these links you’ll find at the bottom.

  • Hi Svetoslava,

For a kitchen in SW you need to balance the elements there. The element of SW is earth and kitchen means fire that’s why a kitchen in SW isn’t considered.

Please read the article @ http://www.fengshuipundit.com/feng-shui-colors/
and you’ll be able to understand how to balance element using colors.

Also, it’s best not to have a bathroom over kitchen (bathroom means water and kitchen is fire. So water over fire isn’t good). I think that having a false ceiling in the kitchen will help reduce the ill effect of the defect.

Feel free to ask further questions.

  • Hi Ayna,

Request you to mark North in the second image. That’ll be better for assessment

    • Ayna

HI pundit! Here are the images that I’ve marked for directions.. thank you..

  • Hi Ayna,

Thanks a ton for marking the directions.

I can see there’s a kitchen in North of the house and that may lead to career and financial troubles for the residents of the house.

You can apply feng shui remedies mentioned @ http://www.fengshuipundit.com/feng-shui-kitchen/

Rest looks good to me. Try to face North or East while eating food. Avoid facing West or South.

Feel free to ask further questions.

    • Ayna

Thank you so much pundit! I just have one more question, is deck considered as part of the house? We have a deck extended from the dining area that made me confuse if our living room is in south or SE direction?

      • Hi Ayna,
        You’re most welcome!

If the deck is covered then it should be considered as a part of the house. Your living room is in the SE and there’s an extension of NE of the house (and that’s considered very good in Vastu Shastra aka Indian Feng Shui)

        • Ayna

Thank you, thank you!!! My deck is not covered however I just realized that we had our dining area upgraded that made the area bigger than the first image I uploaded. I uploaded an image here without the deck but with my dining area bigger that made my living room looks inserted. (Is that what you called “cut” you’ve mentioned on your article?) Will my living room still be considered on SE? I aplogyze that I have lots of follow up questions.. but thank you so much for your patience and generosity.. God Bless!!!

          • You’re welcome Ayna!

Questioning is a human nature and there’s nothing wrong with it. In fact I like that you’re curious about your dwelling and are determined to make it auspicious for yourself and your family.

Now coming to your question; in the East side if the deck is dominating then we’d say that the SE is cut and if the SE side is more than the deck then we’d say that NE is extended. Based on this, the location of your living room will change.

If NE is extended, then the living room is in SE else it’s in South with SE corner cut or missing.

Hope I was able to explain.

            May God Bless You Too!

  • I am looking to buy a 31/2 storey house, has four rooms in each floor. The main entrance gate is in east (southern east). the main door for each flat is on south. Stairs is outside of each floor on south west side. Is this south door for each flat okay? My main concern is that the bathroom+toilet is on middle North. The toilet pan facing east-west. On the topmost floor, half eastern part is balcony and half towards the west is kitchen. Door for Kitchen opens on east but on southern side and the kitchen is on middle east side (not south east of the room). Wash basin on north side. How can i improve these structures? I am afraid of these defects.

  • Shilpa

Hello Pundit! I find your web site excellent. May I please get some advice from you on below floor plans please? We purchased this house & are just about to move in and few warned me that this house is totally wrong on many aspects :-((. We have 2 young boys – 2.5yrs & 2.5months old. Neither my husband(39) nor I (36) have the best health . So this worries me a lot.

    • Hi Shilpa,

The house looks ok to me however it’s not very good either.
For your 2.5 years old son: let him sleep in the NW or NE bedroom.

Move the stove in the kitchen towards NW of the house (away from the center of the house.. Also, I’d suggest you to get a good feng shui consultant) or vastu consultant (if you believe in vastu shastra) visit your place check your house accordingly..

Feel free to ask further questions..

      • Shilpa

Thank you for a prompt response Pundit! Unfortunately I believe nothing can be easily changed in the house here in US. All the electrical outlets are built-in & it will be super complicated & expensive to get approvals for structural changes. What are the complications if these suggestions cannot be implemented.

  • Have replied

  • Paul III

    Hi feng shui pundit,

interesting tips and bits on your site, thanks for sharing. I’m concerned, we are planning on remodeling our kitchen, however the new layout will locate it under a second floor bathroom, is there anything that can be done to help resolve this?

    • Hi Paul,

Thanks and you’re welcome. There’s one thing you can do and that’s to make sure that none of the portion of bathroom (especially water usage one) comes above the gas stove in the kitchen..

Feel free to ask further questions..

  • Hi Shilpa,

    Hmm, I do understand that.

Well there’re a few defects that I can see in your home’ here’re two of them

    1. I can see that there’s a toilet in SW and NE of the house and that may lead to stability and growth issues respectively. I’d suggest you to read the article @ http://www.fengshuipundit.com/feng-shui-colors/ to know the relationship amongst elements and how you can use colors to balance them.

    2. Also, there doesn’t seem to be any open space at the center of the house.

I’d suggest you to get a good feng shui or vastu consultant visit your place and do assessment and apply remedies to your home.

Feel free to ask further questions.

  • Hi,

Send me a layout of your home and mark North on it. I’d be more than happy to help you!

  • Nikko

    Hi feng shui pundit,

All 3 of our bathrooms have black floor tiles. Is this something that can still be worked out? Or do the black tiles have to go? Thanks in advance

  • Hi Nikko,

You can try to balance the colors (and simultaneously) the elements in the bathrooms by using appropriate colors.

Here’s the color article that’ll help you: http://www.fengshuipundit.com/feng-shui-colors/

Feel free to ask further questions

    • Yari

my bathroom is the first door I see when I open the front door of my home.

Would be OK if I place a wallpaper with the image of bamboo plants covering bathroom’s door? Or is it better to place a mirror on it?

The front door and the bathroom’s door are in 90º angle and the distance between their nearest edges is 70 cm.
Front door is in SE and bathroom door is in SW

      Thank you very much

  • Hi Sabrina,

You can hang curtains such that the doors don’t face each other.

i just read an article that says keep the bathroom doors open and clean HOWEVER ive been keeping my bathroom door closed for 6yrs now due to it was adjacent to my bedroom NOW im in a 1 bedroom so the bathroom is down the hall adjacent to towel bar in makeup / sink area i would LOVE to keep it open it’s sooo pretty in there / HOWEVER im NOT into messing up my Qi /sHENG cHI/ positive money flow and gains sooo imma close it for now DANG i was lovin it open for all of 30 minutes LoL

do you really advise against having it open? also my bathroom is in the southeast area of my home (lol once again) i was in a place for 6yrs with it like that and i learned to KICK BUTT financially and each year found out the FINEST cure for that area and powerfully profoundly effectively abide by the cures to the “t” PLEASE let me know what i can do for this year with my bathroom in the south east of my NEW Goddess CoVE…tHANK yOU for your time and concern to this matter.

  • morizuki

Can you give me some tips regarding this house? Sorry if it’s kinda messed up cause I just used a Photoshop to make a blueprint..

These are the people who will live there

    Father – Tiger
    Mother – Tiger
    Eldest Son – Snake
    Second Son – Dog
    Third Son – Snake
    Eldest Son’s Wife – Snake
    Second Son’s Wife – Goat

Father & Mother will use the Master Bedroom
Eldest Son and wife will use the 4th Bedroom
Second Son and wife will use either 2nd or 3rd Bedroom

Third Son will use either 2nd or 3rd Bedroom

When I’m facing the door from the inside going outside, the door is North-East
When I’m facing the Garage, the Sun is on the West just like in the Blueprints

So is there any bad feng shui or need to fix something?

  • Hi Princessglgl,

It’s advised to keep the bathroom door closed at all times. Also, SE happens to be the money and wealth area of the house and having a bathroom there leads to financial troubles. You can refer the articles @ http://www.fengshuipundit.com/feng-shui-colors/
and @ http://www.fengshuipundit.com/feng-shui-wealth/ for the corrective measures you can take!

Feel free to ask further questions.

  • Hi Morizuki,

The house looks good to me. For the bathrooms in the house, refer the article @ http://www.fengshuipundit.com/feng-shui-colors/ to know what’s the best color for the bathrooms and kitchen in your home.

    • morizuki

I’m not sure what direction, is it North-east? Is it also possible to not just use that bathroom? I mean just close it and lock it and never open it?

I heard that it’s unlucky to have a bathroom near the main door, they said that don’t use the main door, use the backdoor for entering. OR sealed the bathroom, never use it anymore.

      • Hi,

In the first image you’ve marked the entrance as NE facing hence considering that means there’s a toilet in NE of the house near the entrance.

You can keep it closed and not use that bathroom and that’ll help reduce the ill effect of the bathroom there. Also, creating a balance of elements using colors and other feng shui articles will help more.

    • morizuki

what about the kitchen? We can’t really paint the kitchen as we are only renting it. Also for the bathroom is it okay to not just use the bathroom at all? We will sealed it and locked it?

  • Susan

Place a mirror on the door of the bathroom—–>which side of the door? side that’s facing the inside house or the side facing the bathroom? how many rods for the windchimes? is it okay if the top part is not metal? please explain….
thanks a lot for your help…..

  • Hi,

If painting cannot be done then you can introduce some items that are of appropriate color and element.

  • Hi Susan,

The side that’s facing outside. Non metallic top should be ok; for more on feng shui elements and colors you can refer the article @ http://www.fengshuipundit.com/feng-shui-colors/
Number of rods is all up to you.

    • Susan

Thanks a lot for guiding me….you are my feng shui master…. 🙂

    • Susan

The thing is the outside door of the bathroom door is facing SW of the home? is it okay to place a mirror facing SW? thank you, Feng Shui Pundit

  • Pearl

Good Day! I have concern about my bathroom door facing
main door. What can you recommend to have a good feng shui? Thanks

    • Hi Pearl,

Place a curtain or a partition between the doors and keep the bathroom door closed at all times.

  • That should be ok

As per vastu shastra this house isn’t very good to live in. However, you can do the following things:

    1. Use SE bedroom as master bedroom.
    2. for toilet and bathroom in North refer the articles @ http://www.fengshuipundit.com/feng-shui-bathroom/ and @ http://www.fengshuipundit.com/feng-shui-colors/

What do you when a bathroom is directly above the kitchen? The toilet bowl is above the kitchen aisle and not directly above the stove. Attached is the picture of the outside, kitchen below and bathroom above. Toilet bowl located in front of that window.

    Hello Pundit,
Kindly please advise me on how to properly feng shui our home. Lay-out below:
    – office on the main floor is right under the master’s bathroom upstairs
    – master’s bathroom doesn’t have a door – was a builder’s design/lay-out

  • Hi Faye,

Keep the office well lit with appropriate color lamps or lights (more on feng shui colors @ http://www.fengshuipundit.com/feng-shui-colors/)

If there’s no door then you can use curtains; however, a door is a must!

  • Have replied!

  • In that case you need to make sure to keep the kitchen very well lit via appropriate colored lights.. more on feng shui colors @ http://www.fengshuipundit.com/feng-shui-colors/

  • Hi Liz,

    Sleep in SW bedroom.

There’s a bathroom/toilet in SE of the house. Refer the article @ http://www.fengshuipundit.com/feng-shui-bathroom/ for remedies.

Try not to sleep in North bedroom. Guests can occupy that.

Kid’s and/or guests can sleep in NW bedroom.

    Hello Pundit,

We have recently moved into our new house and ever since have had a number of difficulties. I have always been a avid fan of Feng Shui and its has assisted me greatly in keeping things harmonious. I am now working through the house one zone at a time and don’t know where to start. Also when going through the process I have identified that Fame and Reputation (South) is where the Bathroom and Toilet are located. They are separate two rooms and while I have tried to implement little steps such as keeping the door closed or the seat cover down, I am confused on what I can add to make it work in our favor. The house is Rectangular in shape and long, so each zone is a bit limited breadth wise but has ample space length wise, hence if I were to equally divide the house I have the sink portion of the Bathroom, the whole toilet, the whole Laundry 🙁 and a small portion of the study in this Zone. At the moment we are using the study as a storage, but that will change as we organize the house. Any tips on what I can do for this zone?

Love reading the published articles, thank you for sharing them.

  • Tal

Hi i have a bathroom and wc in the center of my house they are next to my bedroom but they are apart only bathroom door is inside of my bedroom And i know its not a good place So what i have to do ??

Hi how are you, we ate a young couple who rent a one bed for our marriage I’m december. We have 2 mirrors in the bedroom : one big tall on the floor with black arround reflecting the door corner or shoes rack, and one for the dressing console reflecting top of the bed.
I heard it’s bad and what can we do for the house please we are still not living together in it but we will in December when we marry. Our house is like :
Kitchen south west (with sink same line as cooker beside eachother facing the living room because open kitchen)
Bedroom east (face facing west when sleeping)/ bathroom north east (we put blue and wood furniture and white)
    Mirror of dressing bedroom west
    Other mirror in bedroom east
We can’t put any mirror on north it’s the closet place .
And when my husband look at himself in the mirror of the bathroom or other he get strong headache.
Can you please help us to start our new life? thanks very much by advance . Aya

Hi, nice to learn about this thread. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/e65d798b2f8502bec961d1a617fc8bcd2219400299ea15f97724e9c28a9f9f0d.png

This is the floor plan of my salon business. I’m interested to know more about the sink, cr and bathroom area.

I have three concerns about my area.

1 shampoo area (I’m not sure if my shampoo area is located in the east or center part). Since a shampoo station has a sink and bowl, is there a possibility that it can also affect my business?

    2. cr and wash room – what can you suggest in this area? is this i a good/bad feng shui considering it is located along the hallway?

    3. Hallway: Between the reception area and the waiting area, theres a door which will acess to the hallway going to the spa rooms. is this a good feng shui or does it limit something especially that the cr and wash room is also located along the hallway? if yes, what are the remedies or cures that i do?

I’ve read all your advices on every part of the house but I’m not sure if my appartement really welcomes the Qi… On the picture you can see that the bathroom door is in front of the bed, and my bedroom doesn’t have any door and when you lie down you can see the kitchen (that has no door either).
That’s why I’ve put curtains on the entrance of the room (it’s that thingy that looks like a wave on the blueprint)
I have a lot of air and wind in the house,n it’s well ventilated thanks to the 2 balconies, and the room’s balcony is more of a laundry space.
Also I just hanged a mirror on the small mall/separation between the kitchen and the main door : the mirror is small (it reflects only the head) and has a star form made of wood.
*The blue arrows are for entrances / doors. Except for the right balcony, it’s a bay window/door.
The closets also are open, the room is so tiny that I couldn’t keep the doors because they would’ve hit the bed all the time when opened… So can you help me improve my Qi please ???? I just endured a burglary in my house a few weeks ago so I’m trying to re-invent the space… Thank you so much for your help !!!

  • Hi,

The house seems to be ok to me. If you can then re-orient the bed such that while sleeping your head is pointing towards NW (left side in the image).. Also, you need to re-orient the sofa such that you are able to see the entrance of the home while sitting on the sofa itself.

    • Censuredd

Hi thanks for the response ! Unfortunately I can’t move the bed… It’s stuck between the two wardrobes (the room is really tiny).. is it that bad ??? Thank you so much for your help!

  • Hi,

Please mark North on the layout.

  • Hi Aya,

As this is a public comment, I’ve edited your comment and removed your email id from it just to maintain your privacy.

You’ve said that there’s a big, tall mirror on the floor of the bedroom .. for that you can put a carpet to cover it.

For the other mirror that reflects the bed, you can cover the mirror while someone’s lying on the bed.

For SW kitchen please refer @ http://www.fengshuipundit.com/feng-shui-kitchen/

Which side is the bathroom mirror located? I suspect it’s either East or North.

  • Hi Ananda,

As per vastu shastra, the entrance of your home is very good.

For kitchen in South refer the article @ http://www.fengshuipundit.com/feng-shui-kitchen/

For bathroom and toilet in North, you can read the remedies in this very same article.

While praying, make sure that you or Gods don’t face South. You or God can face East or West.

For wealth refer the article @ http://www.fengshuipundit.com/feng-shui-wealth/

  • Hi,

Please send me a layout of your home and mark North on it. I’ll be more than happy to help you.

  • It’s not that bad but the other arrangement will have been better than this one…

  • Hi Tal,

Bathroom and WC at the center of the house are bad feng shui.. You can get help of a local feng shui consultant to balance elements via changing colors, placement of appropriate items etc.

    Hi Feng Shui Pandit,

Thanks for the article, it was of great help!! Need some further help from your side

I am a “wood rat” and my wife is a “fire tiger”. My kua number is 7 as per which my house should be facing “north west”, so we have recently moved into a new house facing the same

I am sending herewith my house layout. We are finding some difficulty around wealth corner of the house. Please suggest the remedies as the wealth corner has a cut which is depicted by black colour in the layout. Also the secondary wealth corner i.e. north has staircase leading towards the house. Is any remedy required for this. Please suggest

Also please let us know if the division of all the eight baguas is correct

Hi! My bed is facing the bathroom door. Any remedies? I heard that we can place the mirror on the door (inside) or place a curtain on the door. Thanks.

My house and main door is facing west.
Our washing machine( laundry) is located on the 1st floor on the balcony which is directly on top of our main door.
I understand that bathroom or toilet on top of the main door is not good but what about washing machine?
Appreciate your advise and thank you in advance

My upstair bathroom door is facing my master room door.
Is there any solution for this?
    thanks in advance.

  • Tammy Romer

I recently moved to Florida, very humid. My bathroom is in the South part of the condo. Keeping the door shut at all times may not be possible due to mold and humidity. I’ve purchased a changing color nightlight to create light when the door is closed. I’ve added fluroute crystal, and bought a mirror for the outside of the door. What can I do that would allow the door to be open?

  • Hi Jojo,

Please send me a layout of the house with North marked and I’ll be in a better position to assess. If bathroom doesn’t has windows then try to use some very good air freshener.. I follow the classical one.

  • Hi Shushmita,

For the cuts, you can place 4 pyramids (One each) in North, East, West and South of the house. For the staircase, you can place 2 metal turtles under the lowest step of the staircase; get help from a local feng shui consultant to do that for you..

  • Hi Ken,

I can see there’re toilets in NE, SE, South and North of the house.. please refer the article @ http://www.fengshuipundit.com/feng-shui-bathroom/ for remedies..

Also, I can see that the master bedroom is above kitchen and that’s not a good feng shui. You can place a mirror under the bed in the master bedroom such that it faces down towards the kitchen.. get help of a local feng shui consultant to do that for you..

  • Yes, you can place a curtain, as placing a mirror may reflect the bed and that’s 1 more feng shui defect.

  • Hi Chong,

A washing machine is a heavy equipment and hence pressurizes the Qi entering the house form the entrance. If possible then move the machine such that it’s not directly above the door or keep the machine on a platform or stand (as that’ll symbolize that the weight of the machine is borne by the stand or platform)

  • Hi,

    Thanks for liking my website..

I can see that there’re toilets in North of the house; please refer the article @ http://www.fengshuipundit.com/feng-shui-bathroom/ for remedies..

do make sure to apply remedies under guidance of an expert feng shui consultant..

  • Hang a curtain of appropriate color or place a partition such that the toilet isn’t visible via entrance. Do get help of a local feng shui person to choose colors for curtains and materials for partition..

  • A partition or curtain at the bathroom and bedroom door is a good solution. Also keep the bathroom door closed at all times..

  • Hi,

Send me a layout of the house (with North marked) and I’ll be more than happy to help you.

  • That wallpaper idea is good. Make sure to choose a wallpaper with appropriate colors. Also keep the bathroom door closed at all times..

  • Hi Tammy,

Are there any windows or ventilators in the bathroom? If yes, then keep them open to let in fresh air.

    • Tammy Romer

Sorry, no windows. ONLY an exhaust fan (which barely works). I moved in last weekend, and already the room is starting to smell moldy. I keep the door barely cracked. Florida is like living in SE Asia, wet and humid year round. I’m going to hang a mirror on the door exterior to repel any bad juju. I’ve got a crystal on the counter and a color changing nightlight so the 2 mirrors are never in the dark. Finances really took a hit this year because my previous apartment had a bathroom with 2 doors, one into the bedroom and one into the kitchen. I’m happy to pay for a consultation, if you want to take this offline.

    • Tammy Romer

No. No windows, and only a sad exhaust fan.

  • Simi

    Hi punditji,
My husband’s kua number is 5,mine is 5,daughter’s is 8 and son’s dob is 27-2-2007(kua number varies from site to site,so confused).we are on the primary stage of building home(west facing plot) so can u please suggest the position or direction of each bedrooms(master, son’s,daughter’s) and main door.

  • Hi Tammy,

Try to put some dehumidifier in the bathroom. Also, put a bright light in the bathroom and keep it clean. You can replace that exhaust fan with a better one.

At this moment I’m just trying to help people on feng shui via my website and facebook (https://www.facebook.com/FengShuiPundit); I don’t do personal (or commercial) consultancy.

Feel free to ask further questions.

Send me the layout of the flat (with North marked on it).

  • Hi Lisa,

Please read point 11 from http://www.fengshuipundit.com/feng-shui-bathroom/#BathroomToilet_What_To_Do . Also, while applying remedies make sure to consult a local feng shui expert for exact placement of feng shui elements.

    Hello Sir,

I have the option of taking a personal office with a door that faces the main entrance of the office or an office that is directly across from the bathroom.

I may add that the bathroom is at the front entrance as well.

    Any tips?

  • Brindha Purushothaman

We have this plan. We feel the master bathroom is located in wrong direction. Can it be in that direction? If not what’s the remedy on long term? And are the remaining rooms placed good? Entrance, kitchen. And where to keep pooja room. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/0077edbf69fd5eddc7e71bb589f138feecb955b3c2a128a267b28759c30914d0.jpg

  • Hi,

Here’s the link for your reference.. http://www.fengshuipundit.com/feng-shui-colors/

  • The master bedroom should be in SW and that toilet can come in NW. toilet in NW is ok as per vastu shastra…

  • Hi,

Please mark North in the layouts.

  • Hi,

I can see that there’re bathrooms in NW and West of the flat. You can apply remedies mentioned in this very same article. Also, the kitchen is in SE (which is very good as per vastu shastra). You can use appropriate colors in the kitchen to make it more auspicious; here’re the link for help on that:
    1. http://www.fengshuipundit.com/feng-shui-colors
    2. http://www.fengshuipundit.com/feng-shui-kitchen/

Also, since this is a South facing house, I’d suggest you to read a vastu shastra article about it. Here’s the link http://www.vastushastraguru.com/south-facing-house-vastu/

Always make sure to apply any remedy under the guidance of a feng shui or vastu expert.

Hello, so great that I found your site. I intend to buy a house from a broken up couple with 3 teenage daughters. The staircase is right next to the entrance of the main door (not opposite), the bathroom is right over the main door at the 1st floor. In front of the house is another house with its top forms an arrow which can be seen from the kitchen’s door, bathroom’s window and the window of the room next to the bathroom. Should we buy this house or is there any cure? The main door faces East which is good for me but not for my husband. Thanks alot

  • Nicole Kok

Does this here means, placing mirror on the door of the bathroom (facing outward)?
Can it be a hexagonal mirror? What’s the best shape for a mirror outside a bathroom?

Place a mirror on the door of the bathroom, this’ll make the “Qi” bounce back into the house/room and not enter the bathroom or toilet. Just make sure that the mirror is placed as per rules of feng shui; more on feng shui mirror rules @ Mirrors and Feng Shui.

  • Hello,

It all depends upon the distance from the other office and/or bathroom your office would be. Also, some other factors such as your cabin placement and which side you’ll face in the office do play a crucial role. I’d suggest you to get a local feng shui expert to visit your place and help you decide on it. Else, you can send me the measurements (of distance between your office and other office and bathroom) here and I’ll try to help you as much as possible.

  • Hi,

Can you send me a layout of the house with North marked? From your description of the house and about the family who’ve lived there, it seems there can be a defect in the house.

  • Yes, you can place a mirror on bathroom’s door. Also, the best ones are square or rectangle, but they must be framed.

  • TCharles

Hi would it be possible for me to send a sketch of my home please. As i have been experiencing money troubles and unable to find a new job. Basically everything im trying doesnt seem to work. I have placed by course sea salt with water and 6 coins in my north west area whi h seems to be working i keep my plugs in. In my bathroom sink and bath and also keep my toilet seat down and bathroom door closed. But my money still seems to be non existent. Please HELP

  • Jo

Hi can i email u the house plan.. thanks

  • Julia Jones

We about to buy a house. I just looked at one yesterday, but the fact that the owner was found dead in his residence ( December 2016) right before his 69thbirthday ( 2 days before) creeps me out. He never had any kids or wife, all his family is up north. But what also strange is that master bathroom built by the front window and facing the sheet. So pretty much you can seat on toilet spans watch your neighbors across the street or come out of the shower and someone can see you naked… A little strange to me, but th house is pretty nice, brick home. What do you think ? Worth buying it?

  • Keshi

Can I send you my house plan? As it has many vastu defects and I am looking for remedy.

  • Hi Julia,

Get the energy levels of the house checked by a feng shui expert. Only when you’re feeling connected to the house and it’s good as per feng shui, you should make your decision.

  • Hi,

I can see that there’s a kitchen at around the center of the house.. that should not be the case.. if you can change the location of it then move it to a better place.. as per vastu shastra the best location for kitchen in SE of the house… also make sure to get the slope and energy levels of the plot checked by a local feng shui or vastu expert

Remedies related to bathrooms are provided in this very same article.. Try to apply them under guidance of a feng shui expert only.

hello! we are renting a house for 2years near my children’s school but this is not our permanent residence since we only stay during school days. the toilet is upstairs facing the stairs. what can i do about it?

  • Hello Cherry,

How much distance is there between stairs and toilet? Is the toilet right where the stairs end? Is there a space to put a partition? If yes, then that’s a solution.

Hello, we have a bathroom in the south-east corner of the house. That is the master bedroom. It gets good light and air (if windows are open). Please suggest what all i should do to negate the effect of the bathroom in the wrong place.
Also the common bath is in the hallway and kind of in the middle of the house if the adjacent garage is considered part of the house. If garage is considered as an external element, then the bathroom is not in the middle of the house. This bathroom doesn’t have any windows.
Please advice since workwise my husband is extremely struggling and we have been having continuous surprise expenses.

Hi Feng Shui Pundit, I just want to ask, regarding my room, which is under a bathroom toilet on the second floor. What can happen to my situation, in finances, health, wealth and relationship. Hope to hear from you. Thanks.

    • Hi,

A room under a bathroom will have negative influences on health and wealth. In some cases relationship may also suffer.

As a remedy, try to keep the room warmly lit and keep it scented.

We have 2 bathrooms in the house, in the west region, the downstairs one being next to the front entrance. What can we do to improve the energy in this area? Also, the house is built as a semi detached (the other half of the house mirrors ours but it is owed by somebody else). Does that impact on the overall energy of the house? Many thanks, Crina

    • Hi,

      1. Remedies for West bathroom are mentioned in this very same article. A bathroom near the entrance isn’t considered good. Try to put a partition of appropriate color and material there.

      2. If there’s clear cut demarcation between the 2 houses then the other house won’t affect you.

We just bought a house. The bathroom is in the center of the house and is also facing the main entrance. What can I do to correct it?

    • Hi,

A bathroom at the center of the house isn’t considered good. You can get help from a local feng shui expert to get assessment of what possible remedied can be taken. If possible, try to relocate the bathroom away from the center.

  • Hi,

You can apply all the remedies mentioned in the very same article. Also, place a curtain on the bathroom door and keep the door closed at all times.

  • Hi Vamsee,

I believe you’ve doubt regarding the toilet in North side of the house. Try not to use it as a toilet, however, you can use it as a bathroom. Also, try to apply the remedies mentioned in this very same article. Do remember to apply remedies under guidance of a feng shui expert only.

  • Hi Raha,
