Ah! The Lucky Feng Shui Bamboo plant; I’m sure you’ve seen them. They’re everywhere. You might have noticed them at restaurants, shops, hotels, business places, your friend’s home etc.

They’re small – and really cute looking – plants kept in a vase (glass or metal one).

Below is an image of one of them.

The Lucky Feng Shui Bamboo Plant

Now, since ages, the bamboo plant (aka Lucky Bamboo Plant) is used as a powerful tool to attract abundance, prosperity & better health (more about this & how to do it is discussed later in the article).

But, at this time, I want you to understand – in fact fully understand – the concept behind the lucky bamboo plant in feng shui.

So, with that in mind, just read the next section of this article to understand why the bamboo plant is considered lucky in feng shui.

Note: If you’re planning – or want – to feng shui your complete home then please head over to my article @ Feng Shui for House (Room by Room Guide).

Feng Shui Bamboo Plant Luck

Why Lucky Bamboo Is Considered so Lucky?

Why the lucky bamboo is called lucky bamboo and not just the bamboo plant?

Now, there are 2 things that make the bamboo plant the “Lucky Bamboo” plant in feng shui. Here’re those 2 reasons:

  1. It’s hollow from inside: The hollow (pipe like) structure of the plant helps in the movement of Chi (“Qi”) energy. Thus, bamboo plant helps movement of positive energy in turn generating more abundance & prosperity.
  1. It’s hollow from inside (again): Oh Yes! The same reason again. The hollow structure of the plant gives us a BIG lesson of wisdom to let the positive energy flow from within to the world outside. Thus, calming your mind & helping you to focus better.

Is Bamboo plant related to the 5 elements?

The one word answer is “YES”. The lucky bamboo is 100% related to all the 5 elements on which feng shui is based upon.

Here’s how:

  1. Wood: The bamboo plant symbolizes wood element.
  2. Water: We need to timely fill the vase with water, hence water element is embodied.
  3. Earth: Rock, pebbles, clay stones in the vase represent the Earth element.
  4. Fire: There’s always a red ribbon tied to the vase or plant itself. Red represents fire.
  5. Metal: Usually a metal coin is tied with the red ribbon or there’s a metal coin with in the vase; thus metal element is also covered.

All in all, it’s for certain that the lucky bamboo is 100% related to all the 5 elements.

Now, all this, in no way means that you can place the bamboo plant anywhere in your home. There’re some feng shui rules for lucky bamboo placement that we’ve discussed in the next section of this article. So, just read on!

The Best & Lucky Placement for Feng Shui Bamboo Plant

Much like anything else in feng shui, the placement of lucky bamboo plant too is crucial. Crucial because, if placed correctly, the lucky bamboo plant can really – and I mean it – helps attract tons and tons of positive energy in the house.

Having said that, here’re 2 vital areas where you can locate or place the feng shui lucky bamboo plant:

  1. East: When placed in East, the lucky bamboo plant helps attract awesome health for family members.
  2. South-East (SE): SE is the zone of money & wealth. Hence, a bamboo plant here will help strengthen the finance & bring in more money in to the family. More on Wealth attraction via feng shui @ Feng Shui To Attract Money

Caring for Feng Shui Bamboo Plant – Here’s How to Keep Them Healthy

Alright, so taking care of the lucky bamboo plant in your home isn’t a tough job. They need very less care but you need to make sure that you’re doing a few things and avoiding others.

Below is a list of thing that you need to do and avoid while taking care of bamboo plants in your home or office.

Lucky Bamboo Plant Care – What to Follow (8 Tips)

  1. Choose a vase that’s at least 2 inches wider than the plant.
  2. Adorn the vase with polished stones & pebbles. Apart from making the vase attractive, these stones will help keep the bamboo plant straight.
  3. Keep the plant inside your home.
  4. Lucky bamboo loves filtered or distilled water. If that’s not possible, then try using as much clean water as you can.
  5. If you notice the leaves turning yellow then let the water sit for whole night before using.
  6. Cut yellow leaves immediately.
  7. Replace the water at least once in 15 days.
  8. Love them & they’ll shower love on you.

Lucky Bamboo Plant Care – What to Avoid (4 Tips)

  1. Never over water the plant.
  2. Never under water the plant.
  3. Bamboo hates direct (too strong) sunlight; hence it’s to be avoided.
  4. Avoid clutter, dust, dirt and anything negative near the plant.

Number of Stalks in Lucky Bamboo & Their Significance (Which one’s the best for you)

As we’ve read – and understood – earlier that a bamboo plant is a positivity generating tool; but there’s something more than just keeping the plant in your home and reaping the benefits.

If you’ve noticed (bamboo plants) you’d have seen many stalks bunched together and kept neatly – and attractively – in a vase.

The reason for bunching a number of stalks together is to enhance the positive energy generating capacity of the bamboo plant.

Now, as per feng shui, different number of stalks in a bamboo plant represents different things.

Below, you’ll find descriptive information about what each number of stalks signifies.

  1. One Stalk (aka Lucky Log): This is a single log bamboo plant. The log – mostly – has no roots but still manages to grow leaves. This type of (single log) plant signifies growth and is especially popular – as gifts – amongst business people. There’re some varieties of such plants that can produce awesome fragrant and beautiful looking white flowers.
  2. Two Stalks: The two stalk bamboo plant is believed to double the luck and is often associated with love. It’s an ideal gift for lovers.
  3. Three Stalks: If you’re looking for happiness, long life and prosperity then the three stalk bamboo plant is the one for you. It’s – without a doubt – the most common too!
  4. Four Stalks: If there’s ever a bamboo plant to avoid like a plague then it’s the four stalk one. The four stalked plant represents death wish and hence you’d never notice it anywhere. Furthermore, gifting a four stalk bamboo is – obviously – considered very offensive.
  5. Five Stalks: The 5 stalked lucky bamboo enriches the 5 major areas of your life i.e. emotions, intuition, mental, physical and spiritual. This is the one that you need to have in your home if you wish healthy body, mind, career and finance.
  6. Six Stalks: 6 stalk bamboo is believed to attract luck, prosperity and golden opportunities to attain wealth and money.
  7. Seven Stalks: If health is what you’re going after then the 7 stalk bamboo plant is ideal for you.
  8. Eight Stalks: The eight in Chinese sounds like growth and thus the 8 stalks bamboo plant is considered auspicious for growth. It’s also considered lucky for wanna be parents and is believed to improve fertility.
  9. Nine Stalks: It symbolizes good luck and blessings to the receiver.
  10. Ten Stalks: This one’s like wishing someone to be very happy and satisfied in their life. The giver wishes the receiver gets everything just the way he/she desires.
  11. Twenty-One Stalks: This is the most powerful bamboo plant of all. It signifies that all the most awesome wishes are yours and that too in one of the most profound manner. The giver wishes you tremendous wealth, health & abundance.

WARNING: The only one that you need to avoid is the 4 Stalk Bamboo Plant!

Hi, our house has 3 doors alignment (master’s bedroom door to kitchen door to back door). I notice since we move to this house my husband lost his job & the money flow is not very good for us. Is there any advice you can give to avoid bad luck? (we are only renting the house so we can’t change the plan/design of the house.) thank you! I hope to hear from you soon.

  • Hi Cris,

Please put curtains as a partitions between doors. Also, send me the plan of your home with North marked on it and I’ll be more than happy to help you. As you said your husband lost his job, I suspect there’s a bathroom, staircase or kitchen in North or SE or SW of the house.

    • Hi Rowena,

Sorry I missed the fact that you’ve marked North already.

So I can see that there’s a bathroom in SE of the house, the kitchen in South and a portion of the house (Southern) side is missing..

For bathroom please refer the article @ http://www.fengshuipundit.com/feng-shui-bathroom/

For kitchen refer the one @ http://www.fengshuipundit.com/feng-shui-kitchen/

and for missing corner you can place 4 pyramids (one each) in North, East, West and South of the house..

Do remember to get help of a local feng shui consultant while applying remedies.

Feel free to ask further questions.

      Thanks

OK how about if you have a pack that has about 38 stalks?

  • joe

Hi , I have few doubts,

    1) what I bought is a set of 15 stalks (9 lower base circle small stalks & 6 longer stalk in center to-gather tied with 3 red ribbon as circle ) , should i take it as 15 or will this act as 9 & 6 ,? should i separate it ?

    2) can I keep similar one in my bed room also in south east corner?

    thank you so much

  • Hi Shallu,

    Here’s the article that’ll help you http://www.fengshuipundit.com/feng-shui-wealth/

    Thanks

  • Hi Tanmoy,

A 2 layer bamboo has 2 circles of bamboo plants one inside the other while a 3 layer has 3. All you need to make sure is that the number of stalks are as per feng shui. You can keep the plant in East or SE (in kitchen) or in SE of your living room..

    Thanks

    • Tanmoy Roy

      Thank you

  • 38 is good for prosperity…

  • You can take it as 15 or 9 and 6. it’s your wish to separate them.. not in the bedroom.

    • joe

      1) what does 15 represent ? and in lower 9 one stalk shoot is broken during handling, is it okay or shall i replace with new one? will it act as bad luck ..

  • Not sure about 15. It’s better if you change that stalk.

  • Uma Devi

Hi..I stay in hostel..I m a student preparing for entrance exam..where should I place this plant for success and good luck? and how many I have to plant? personally I love plants.

  • Hi Uma,

Since you’re a student here’re a few things you need to keep in mind for better studies:

    1. Face East while studying.
    2. Don’t sit such that there’s a wall in front of you.
    3. If there’s a wall behind you then it’s good.
    4. You can place the plant on the table itself.

    Hi !
How many lucky bamboo vases can we keep in the house ? We were gifted with one vase with 5 long stalks which are curled & the other day some one gifted us with a small vase of 3 small stalks.
Can we keep both ? If so where in the house ?
If not, which one do we keep & where in the house ?

  • ArmarageX

Im planning to put a 6 stalk bamboo (ceramic pot) in the wealth corner of my business. However currently it doesn’t have a red ribbon or coin.

Should i leave it purely as it is… so its purely Wood/Earth/Water, complimenting that area.

Or should i have a ‘balanced’ bamboo… by adding the red ribbon & lucky coin?

  • Nikki

Some sites say 5 for wealth and some 6.. what’s accurate now. Also why can’t we keep lucky bamboo in the east of bedroom.. we live in a studio. So the living and bedroom is the same.. we are a married couple with 1 child. Facing alot of financial issues.

  • Dushyant Patel

Hello, I have lots of unexpected expense than my income. Kitchen is in north in our home.
Can you please suggest me how control my unexpected expense?

  • You can keep as many as you like.. the placements are already discussed in this very same article.. just make sure to avoid plants in bedroom..

  • Hi,

you can keep it on your table..

Send me a layout of the shop with North marked.

    Thanks

  • You can add 2 more stalks or remove 1 to make it 21 or 18.

  • What’s the negativity you’re facing?

  • Adding ribbon or coin is good

  • You can keep any.. in that case try to keep the plant away from the sleeping area..

  • Virginia Smith

Hi, i have two bamboo plants… one i purchased and it has 11 stalks, the other I ‘inherited’ (someone was getting rid of it when they were moving) and it has 22 stalks all intertwined together. One is positioned in the back right SE corner of the dining room (split style house – living room in front with dining room directly behind it at back of house and kitchen to the left of the dining room – like a big L, all connected). Should I change the number of stalks in either. (We have a child leaving to college soon and finances are quite tight) Also, what type of ‘coin’ or ‘length of red ribbon’ should I add to them & positioned how? Both are in ceramic pots. Thank you so very much for your help. : )

  • Michael

Hello, my bedroom is in the southeast (entry faces N). To attract wealth and prosperity where should bamboo reside? It seems all wealth remedies are bad for master bedrooms. Meaning what attracts wealth shouldn’t be placed in a bedroom.

  • Bulbul Jain

If someone has given me 4 stalk bamboo plant can I separate one stalk to make it 3 stalked plant?

  • Debashree

Sir is it ok to keep the plant in the washroom

  • Hi Virginia,

Yes, you can change the stalks to 11 and 21. The length of the ribbon doesn’t matter much. Just make sure it toes to the ribbon. BTW, you get the complete set of coins with ribbon in the market and you don’t need to buy each one separately.

    Thanks

  • Yes, you can.

  • Hi,

The bamboo shouldn’t be ideally kept in the bedroom. You can place it in other wealth areas. More about feng shui wealth @ http://www.fengshuipundit.com/feng-shui-wealth/

    Thanks

  • Try not to keep the plants in the bathroom. However, there may be certain situations where a feng shui expert may advise to keep the plants in bathroom. In such case, please do as the expert says.

  • Hi,

That looks aggressive.. you can consult a local feng shui expert and check if that can be placed outside the entrance of your home for protection purposes.
